Take it all one step at a time. And today we are talking about decorating. So what is the difference between blinds, curtains, drapes and Shutters? And why does it matter at all.
Blinds are not just about keeping heat in but they are a means to filter light in and out of the room. Blinds are a great way of stopping direct light coming into the house, without blocking out the view or making it feel like night time. Blinds are mostly installed inside the home but they don’t have to be.
Blinds can be made of Wood, Aluminium, Fabric and plastic. Blinds usually come down across the window horizontally from a cord or pulley
Curtains are all about keeping warmth inside the home, blocking out the sun from over heating the house, privacy and protecting your house and furniture from fading. Curtains are about light, keeping it in or keeping it out.
Curtains are always installed on the Inside of the House and comes across the window vertically.
Drapes are a thicker and more decorative kind of curtain. Drapes are about making the curtains visible instead of trying to hide them. Drapes are popular in North America and the term is often used interchangeably for curtains. Drapes are often thicker, heavier and more structurally designed than curtains. Drapes are also installed on the inside of the home. Drapes are the very definition of a window dressing.
Shutters can be installed on either the inside or the outside of the home. Shutters offer a protective barrier to the window. they are important for privacy and blocking out light, but where they really come into their own is when they are fixed onto the outside of the home.
Shutters are great for hurricanes, storms, high winds and security. Closed and locked onto the outside of the window, Shutters are a great way to lock down the home if ever you need to.
Shutters are solid little doors mostly, that still let in light, while closing in on a window like a door.
