MEDIA RELEASE

1st November 2006

The World’s Best of the Best from Peter Lehmann’s Barossa Valley.

Peter Lehmann Wines was named International Winemaker of the Year last night in London by the prestigious 2006 International Wine & Spirit Competition.

This is the second time it has achieved this remarkable accolade, having previously won in 2003.

It was also named Australian Producer of the Year, again for the second time.

This fiercely competitive arena attracts around 5,000 entries from over 50 countries including top names from Australia, and is regarded as the pinnacle of international wine competition

Speaking from London, Chief winemaker, Andrew Wigan, said, “To be made the overall Winemaker of the Year for the second time since 2003 is unbelievable. There is enormous excitement throughout the company, particularly as the judging is done by an international group of judges on ‘neutral ground’ in the UK.
Peter Lehmann Wines comprises a talented team of people which of course includes 180 independent grape growers in and around the many and varied subregions of the Barossa, South Australia. The sheer quality, reliability and versatility of this amazing wine producing region has led to a high level of achievement with both our red and white wines, ultimately resulting in this prestigious award - let the celebrations begin!”

Founded in 1969, the IW&SC is the premier competition of its kind on the international stage. Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs, and sets the standards for the rest of the world’s wine industry.

The IW&SC boasts the most highly qualified and trained group of international judges of any wine and spirit competition in the world, comprising many MW’s (Masters of Wine) and prominent trade judges.

Awards are based on a 100 point marking system and sponsored trophies are presented to the very best of the year’s entries in specific categories.

- International Winemaker of the Year -The Wolf Blass Trophy
- Australian Producer of the Year -The Maersk Logistics Trophy

Peter Lehmann Wines Managing Director, Doug Lehmann, said, “It really has been a great team effort and one that could not have been achieved without all the hard work and dedication from all our winemaking team and our many growers from within the length and breadth of the Barossa.

“2006 really has been a stellar year for our winemaking team, with the announcement in September of the ‘White Winemaker of the Year’ Trophy at the London International Wine Challenge. With Trophies and Gold Medals from the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Barossa Wine Shows our growers and winemakers have every right to feel extremely proud of themselves.

“The Peter Lehmann brand is based on real values…our wines are real wines, made by real people from a real place…the Barossa Valley of South Australia!”
