The World’s Best of the Best from Peter
Lehmann’s Barossa Valley.
Peter Lehmann Wines was named International
Winemaker of the Year last night in London by the prestigious 2006
International Wine & Spirit Competition.
This is the second time it has achieved this remarkable accolade, having
previously won in 2003.
It was also named Australian Producer of the Year, again for the second
time.
This fiercely competitive arena attracts around 5,000 entries from over
50 countries including top names from Australia, and is regarded as the
pinnacle of international wine competition
Speaking from London, Chief winemaker, Andrew Wigan, said, “To be made
the overall Winemaker of the Year for the second time since 2003 is
unbelievable. There is enormous excitement throughout the company,
particularly as the judging is done by an international group of judges
on ‘neutral ground’ in the UK.
Peter Lehmann Wines comprises a talented team of people which of course
includes 180 independent grape growers in and around the many and varied
subregions of the Barossa, South Australia. The sheer quality,
reliability and versatility of this amazing wine producing region has
led to a high level of achievement with both our red and white wines,
ultimately resulting in this prestigious award - let the celebrations
begin!”
Founded in 1969, the IW&SC is the premier competition of its kind on the
international stage. Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of
the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs, and sets the standards for
the rest of the world’s wine industry.
The IW&SC boasts the most highly qualified and trained group of
international judges of any wine and spirit competition in the world,
comprising many MW’s (Masters of Wine) and prominent trade judges.
Awards are based on a 100 point marking system and sponsored trophies
are presented to the very best of the year’s entries in specific
categories.
