Coverforce buys Swissco assets
COVERFORCE has acquired the assets of Swissco Insurance Brokers (Swissco) in
a continuation of its acquisition growth strategy.
Swissco Insurance Brokers went into liquidation in April owing creditors
some $380,000 (InsuranceNewsAustralia.com April 11 2008).
Jim Angelis, chief executive of Coverforce said the inclusion of the Swissco
asset into the Coverforce group enhanced his company’s corporate
broking and employee benefits business.
Swissco had a similar clientele to Coverforce as a provider of insurance
broking services to prestigious corporate clients and industry groups.
Mr Angelis said his company would be changing the name of the former
Swissco’s paper with clients to Coverforce as policies were renewed. So
far there had been no problems.
Coverforce is a specialist in insurance for business, professional and
industry groups.
It also has an underwriting agency Coverforce Underwriting that specialises
in professional risks under the leadership of Daniel Wicks
with security from Lloyd’s and Vero.
Swissco was one of 3 acquisitions Coverforce has targeted for 2008, Mr
Angelis said.
“We are delighted with the acquisition of Swissco. It is a quality purchase
and our fifth in two years. The acquisition enables Swissco to
improve its current offering by leveraging the capability of the wider
Coverforce group.”
Coverforce provided its insurances as “a trusted and respected insurance
professional” with access to leading Australian and world insurance
markets, he said.
The company established in 1994.

SACCI will introduce two value
adding services to its members.
The SACCI Board unanimously
decided to introduce two new value adding services to its members at no
extra cost.
Firstly, membership fees for
branch offices will be abolished. All SACCI members with interstate branches
in Australia will have the opportunity to register as many branches as they
wish - at no cost! SACCI's GM, Marcel Svatos, commented: "I believe this is
the right step forward for SACCI as a national organisation. The recent
membership survey showed that many SACCI members do have two or more
interstate branches, most of which have not been on SACCI's communication
and distribution list. With this step, we will be able to communicate with
more individuals and increase the networking opportunities, particularly
outside of NSW."
Secondly, SACCI's complete
member directory will be available on SACCI's website. All corporate members
will have their company name and website listed, sorted alphabetically and
by sector. Those members who appear in SACCI's trade magazine
"Opportunities" in the section "Trade Directory" (a service offered against
a minimal yearly fee), will have a more prominent appearance in the online
membership directory by displaying their logos. Marcel Svatos: "All our
corporate members will enjoy the benefit of being listed online, which is an
additional opportunity to find their business." He adds: "I think now, we've
got it right! On the one hand, we give those members, who contribute
financially a little bit more than others, more exposure in our quarterly
magazine and soon also online. On the other hand, we increase the privacy of
each and every member!"
The details of both value adding
services will be communicated to SACCI members in due course.

$130M EXPANSION FOR
BRISBANE CONVENTION & EXHIBITION CENTRE
Source: Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre
Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre’s
$130 million expansion will enable the Centre to meet increasing
international and national demand.
Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has
officially confirmed plans for the new convention centre
development to be located on vacant land adjacent to the
existing Convention Centre in Brisbane’s South Bank Precinct,
heart of the city’s cultural and entertainment activities.
“The expansion will continue to strengthen
the Centre’s position in a very competitive market and will
continue to enhance Brisbane’s reputation as a leading
destination for meetings and business events,” Ms Bligh said.
The Centre’s strong performance, with
record forward bookings and sustained growth underpins the
timing of the expansion project.
The expansion announcement follows
unprecedented demand for the Centre’s facilities with 93
convention bid wins with a record economic benefit of $136
million for Queensland so far this financial year.
The new convention centre development is
designed to meet an urgent need to accommodate conventions of up
to 600 delegates and will provide greater flexibility in
accommodating events of different sizes at the one time.
The expansion design incorporates five
levels of boutique convention and event space establishing the
Centre as Australia’s most flexible meetings and events venue.
The expanded Brisbane Convention &
Exhibition Centre will have total room capacity and numbers of
meeting rooms comparable to the new Melbourne Convention Centre
while also providing larger clients with the opportunity to
increase their plenary sessions up to 8,000 pax.
The new expanded facility to be opened in
mid 2010, will be the only convention venue in Australia to have
three stand alone Plenary Halls covering meetings from 400 to
8,000, two ballrooms, three Speakers’ Presentation Centres, six
Executive Boardrooms and Australia’s first tasting room.
Brisbane Convention Centre General
Manager, Robert O’Keeffe said the official announcement of the
expansion was not only timely but also very welcome.
“Brisbane is experiencing a period of
record growth with a 28% increase in business tourism nights
according to the most recent national visitors survey. The
Centre’s forward booking levels are at an all time high and as
such the need to expand our facilities has become critical to
our future business plans.”
“The new development will provide us with
the infrastructure to host more than 250 additional new events
each year,” Mr O’Keeffe said.
South Bank Corporation Chairman Steve
Wilson said the expansion of the Centre was a great boost for
the Precinct. “The new facilities will face the South Bank
Cultural Forecourt and will add to the activation of Grey Street
as a retail and restaurant hub and provide a direct link to the
South Bank Precinct.”
The Centre’s expansion news coincides with
an exciting and contemporary repositioning and rebranding of the
Centre, its services and facilities.
The new campaign highlights the powerful
product on offer and is designed to meet the requirements of the
Centre’s strategic positioning and planning into the future.
The new campaign was developed after
months of consultation with leading Australian agency Clemenger
Harvie Edge Brisbane, targeting both the national and
international markets encompassing a truly integrated
communications platform.
The campaign focuses on the Centre’s
unique capability and flexibility and its outstanding track
record of success.

News from Invest Australia
This is to advise you that, as a result of the changes in
administrative arrangements following the recent Federal election, the
Australian Government's core investment promotion functions now form part of
a new Investment Promotion Division within the Department of Innovation,
Industry, Science and Research.
This Division will also integrate some of the functions
of the Global Opportunities Program, which was announced in early 2007. The
Major Project Facilitation function is now the responsibility of the
Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local
Government.
The new Division will assume responsibility for the
Government's overseas network of investment commissioners and staff.
The changes mean that Invest Australia no longer exists.
Use of the term will be phased out as quickly as possible.
We will inform you in the New
Year on the scope and directions of the new Division's activities. Barry
Jones, our Division Head, has put an interim structure in place for the
Division, but would expect that to change as a result of detailed business
planning for the 2007-08 financial year. In the meantime we will continue to
work with you to promote Australia as an investment destination and to
attract investment in key sectors.
