EUR-OP
EUR-OP is the official publisher of the institutions of the European Union.
Based in Luxembourg, EUR-OP publishes in more languages than any other
publishing house in the world. When first established in 1969, the number of
working languages was four. By 1986 this had increased to nine: Spanish, Danish,
German, English, Greek, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese. With the accession of
three new countries, on 1 January 1995, the number of working languages grew to
11 to include Finnish and Swedish.
EUR-OP publishes about 8 000 monographs and around 110 periodicals a year, as
well as an important number of CD-ROMs, databases, videos, etc. It is now
possible to access electronically the vast quantity of rapidly changing EU
legislation.
Eudor is a sophisticated electronic delivery system, accessible on the
Internet, which includes official EU documents such as the Official Journal, COM
documents and consolidated EU law. Celex is a database providing information on
all stages of legislation from first proposal to the subsequent act, including
amendments. IDEA is a Who's Who of the institutions and the TED database gives
access to more than 500 public tenders announced by public authorities in the EU
and elsewhere. By the beginning of 1998, EUR-OP has launched a database on the
Internet called 'Free EU law' which gives access to the Official Journal and
basic EU legislation.
