Photos: Peter Lehmann Wines Masterclass
17 July 2007
Sponsored by KPMG
SACCI members were invited to a wonderful event with Peter Lehmann Wines
(owned by the Swiss Hess Group).
Thanks to new Corporate Sponsor KPMG (www.kpmg.com.au)
we were able to offer a networking event not to be missed.
The SACCI PLW Masterclass was last held in 2005 and was a sell-out - it was a
repeat performance in 2007!
This was our chance to taste the world's best Semillion as announced at the
2007 London Wine Challenge.

Peter Lehmann Wins Three White Wine Trophies in UK’s International Wine
Challenge!
With the announcement of results from the 2007 International Wine Challenge in
London, Peter Lehmann Wines can feel incredibly proud of their efforts having
scooped three Trophies for their 2002 Eden Valley Reserve Riesling and 2001
Reserve Semillon.
This is an amazing result in what is claimed by the organisers “to be the
world’s largest blind wine tasting”. 9,358 wines were entered from 35 countries
and only 260 won gold medals (2.85% of total entries), and just 84 wines were
awarded trophies.
“The 2002 Eden Valley Reserve Riesling has emulated the efforts of the 2001
vintage giving us back to back Australian Riesling and Eden Valley Riesling
Trophies, once again endorsing the fabulous viticultural qualities of Eden
Valley as a world class Riesling district”, stated Andrew Wigan, Chief
Winemaker.
The 2002 Peter Lehmann Eden Valley Reserve Riesling has now won 5 Trophies and 7
Gold Medals, “…and is now only starting to hit its straps!” said Andrew.
For the winemaking team at Peter Lehmann Wines, winning the International
Semillon Trophy with the 2001 Reserve Semillon is the culmination of many years
work.
“Semillon grows easily alongside Shiraz in the Barossa and is a regional
specialty. Most of the Semillon we sell under the Peter Lehmann label is
relatively young with delicate lemon flower notes, however, each year we pick a
small batch to bottle early under the Reserve label and cellar for 5-6 years
before release which allows the wonderful complexities to develop.” said Andrew.
The 2001 Peter Lehmann Reserve Semillon has now won 2 Trophies and 15 Gold
Medals around the world to date.
Andrew also went onto say, “The freshness and class of these two exciting wines
is further guaranteed by the fact that they are sealed under screw cap – the
winemaker’s friend!”
Best of all that these are current release wines!
Winemakers: Andrew Wigan, Ian Hongell, Leonie Lange and Kerry Morrison.
