DESIGN WITH COLOUR AND STYLE by Shaynna Blaze
The BLOCK has been running now in Australia for 11 Seasons. Never before have I ever even thought to watch it, until we brought our very own home. Now that we are knee-deep in renovations ourselves, I am hooked!
Now I love watching the Block. All I think about is renovations. I feel like I am learning from their mistakes, and taking tips and tricks from what the contestants do with the apartments they are renovating.
I can’t wait to see what stylish new feature or furnishing they will come up with. And even more so, I can’t wait to see what the judges are going to think. Neale Whitaker, Darren Palmer and Shaynna Blaze.
Shaynna Blaze is an Australian Interior Designer. She became a TV personality when she started hosting the show Selling Homes Australia.
In 2013 she released an Interior Design book Design Your Home. Her second book, DESIGN WITH COLOUR AND STYLE, was released on 25 March 2015.
This book is a great book for beginners in Interior Design, the perfect starting book for those who literally have no clue. DESIGN WITH COLOUR AND STYLE is an easy book to read. It has some great ideas that you can take right from the pages, or they can be adapted to your personality and used as inspiration.
DESIGN WITH COLOUR AND STYLE does not tell you how to design your home, but rather teaches you how to find and perfect your own style.
DID YOU KNOW? Colour trends used to emerge out of change, religion, war and social movements, but these days they are more artificially constructed. According to Blaze, professional trend forecasting is big business. Colour forecasters set the trends for what the colours in manufacturing will be on the basis of ‘this is what people want’. Manufacturing is about reducing commercial risk, so many companies follow these trends in an effort to lessen the risk
There is a focus on the emotional side of colour and Blaze is always returning to how colours make people feel, how does the room feel, what do colours remind you of. It’s a really emotional and personal way to approach design, which I like. The focus is not about being perfectly on trend or cutting edge.
Designing and decorating your home should ultimately be about capturing the essence of the person who lives there. I loved this book and would defiantly recommend it to anyone who has just bought or is about to build a new home.
