So our new bathroom is unimaginably ugly.
We recently bought a new house, and are planning to renovate the whole thing over a few years. At the moment, Our bathroom features 8 different tile designs in various textures and shades of blue. It is horrible and I hate being in there.
At the moment, our bathroom features eight different tile designs, each in various sizes, textures and shades of blue. It is horrible and I hate being in there. It overwhelms my senses.
As we are currently expecting our first child (only five weeks now) our renovation plans have unfortunately been put on hold.
This means it will be a long time until we are ready to renovate the bathroom.
But I want to change it now.
After looking around online for solutions to our ugly bathroom problem, I discovered I can actually paint bathroom tiles! Perfect, I thought that would be the best short term solution around. The problem is that my husband – who is an ex-professional house painter – refuses to let me paint the tiles.
He tells me that painted tiles are horrible! He says it’s hard to do right, never looks as good as you think it will, doesn’t last and ends up more trouble than it is worth.
Pinterest tells me painting wall tiles will be easy! All I need to do is buy special tile paint, and prepare the surface well. Voila!
My husband laughed at me when I told him this. He thinks Pinterest is for suckers! “there is no way that painting those tiles will be easy. I promise you, you will be disappointed with the results and wished you’d never touched them.”
He thinks Pinterest is for suckers! “There is no way that painting those tiles will be easy. I promise you, you will be disappointed with the results and wished you’d never touched them.” He thinks painting tiles should be a crime.
Now that I have seen a few more pictures I am inclined to believe him.
The thing to consider when painting tiles is this – The tiles will look like they have been painted! There is no way of getting around that. The tiles will look like you painted, them because you did paint them because you couldn’t afford to change them.
Even a professional painter will not be able to conceal that fact that instead of ugly old tiles, you now have ugly painted tiles.
